Make It Monday: Mod Melt Nature Clock

Hello all you crafty people. Did you have a great weekend? We hope you made something special. During the summer months many people find themselves with more spare time on their hands. They take vacations, have summer hours at work, or just feel more inspired to try new things. This summer make sure you take some time to be creative.

Don’t be afraid to craft if you’re a beginner, and if you are a long time crafter don’t be afraid to try new craft techniques. A new technique we’d like to mention are crafting with mod melts. Mod Melts are a new line where you can create your own embellishments. Cathie and Steve designed this new line that is now available at Michaels.

There are so many ways you can craft with mod melts, and today we want to share with you this Mod Melt Nature Clock. Julie Lewis designed this project, and it will take about two hours to complete. Time will pass more pleasantly with this retro inspired fun clock. Don’t let these summer months pass away without crafting. Below are all the supplies you will need, along with their instructions.

PLAID Supplies

  • Mod Podge ® 7 Piece Tool Kit
  • Mod Podge ® Mod Melts – White Milk Glass
  • Mod Podge ® Mod Molds – Nature
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Citrus Green, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Steel Gray, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Brilliant Pink, 2 oz.
  • Simply ® Stencils – Value Packs – Circles & Squares
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Calypso Sky, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Artists Pigments™ – Pure Orange, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Wicker White, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Licorice, 2 oz.
  • Plaid ® Wood Surfaces – Frames – Square
  • Mod Podge ® Matte, 8 oz.

Other Supplies

7″ round plaque, Black and white numbers scrapbook paper, Wax paper, Clock kit, Hand or power drill, Pencil, Glue, Glue gun, Paper towels, Stencil brush ½”, Round brush #4, Brush basin, Foam plates

Instructions

  1. Drill hole in center of round plaque large enough to fit clock stem through.
  2. Basecoat round plaque Steel Gray. Paint edge Wicker White. Paint outside edge of square frame Licorice.
  3. Insert Milk Glass Mod Melt into glue gun and heat. Fill in designs in Mod Mold and let harden. Remove and repeat until you have twelve assorted designs. Ragged edges can be trimmed with scissors.
  4. Using the 1 ¼” circle from stencil, apply circles around face of round plaque in colors shown. When dry, glue Mod Mold icons to circles.
  5. Trace outer and inner opening of square frame onto back of number paper. Cut out.
  6. Apply Matte Mod Podge® to frame surface and back of paper. Place onto frame. Cover with wax paper and use squeegee to smooth. Wait at least twenty minutes before applying several coats of Matte to seal.
  7. Glue round plaque to front of frame.
  8. Attach clock parts to finish.

Tip: Paint Mod Molds in colors used to stencil circles and stencil circles Wicker White for an alternative look.
